Solid Insulation InvestigationWater trees in cables, partial discharges in generators or motors, thermal degradation of transformers: all of these cases illustrate how insulating material smay suffer from ageing phenomena. These unwanted processes may lead to prematuire end-of-life or unexpected outages. Inversely, low risk of breakdown and safe long-lasting operation strongly depend on the health of the insulating materials used electrical machines and accessoires. We perform in-depth investigation of solid insulating materials. Together with electrical measurements, such an assessment makes us able to: For our investigations, we rely on the following techniques: - X-Ray Diffraction (XRD)
- X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF)
- Fourier Transform Infra Red spectroscopy (FTIR)
- Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
The material analysis laboratory is also used to charecterize other non metallic materials (polymers, deposits, slag, ash, biomass,...), in order to help in the resoltion of a large number of industrial problems such as corrosion, combustion, filtration, etc.
