Laborelec built a microgrid on its site in Linkebeek. This micro-grid is able to operate autonomously and in a stable manner when detached from the main Belgian electricity grid. Laborelec uses it to study stability of power electronics in electricity grids. Three single-phase battery-fed power supplies ensure the grid’s stability. The photovoltaic energy (PV) sources have been operational since mid-October 2007. The PVs consist of 10 kWp poly crystalline, amorphous, and multilayer solar panels. Laborelec also installed two micro-wind turbines of 6 kWp and a Stirling motor.
